Daily Candy

I still hadn't come down from my New York Times high when Daily Candy Chicago did a story on Up in the Air Somewhere the very next day! It was a deadly one two punch to my stock and now I'm having to send dreaded back order notices to customers. So far it seems that I have the most wonderful, understanding customers on earth. Since all my work is made individually by hand and not with molds, it's difficult to really mass produce things. The good news/bad news is that this is an unusually big order week for me, so I'm sure I'll get caught up this month.

OMG NYT!

I was beyond thrilled to have my Gold Lip Dish series chosen by Grace Bonney of Design Sponge as one of her picks for fall for this New York Times article! My scan of the print edition isn't so great, but you get the idea. Having my work (and Ben's photo credit!) in the New York Times is probably the highlight of my life so far. Up in the Air Somewhere is just shy of a year old, so I'm totally shocked by how well it has been received.

Fall Organizing

Now that I've regrouped a bit from the Renegade fair, I've got fall organizing on my mind. There's something so satisfying about cleaning out the clutter and starting fresh. I'm trying to get all my paperwork in order first and I'm so tempted by these Billet Travel Folders. I love the muted colors and straightforward design. Yum.

Up in the Air Somewhere at Renegade 2008

It rained and rained and rained, but it could have been worse. I was happy that I got to realize my paper wall vision. It actually stayed intact much longer then I expected with all the rain.

I was surprised by how many people managed to come out to the show in the horrible weather! They made the experience worthwhile. It was also really great to meet some wonderful artists near me at the show. My neighbors Moth Cloth were selling some nicely designed t-shirts. They were in town from Houston, so the poor guys are heading back to even worse conditions. Behind me was Freshie & Zero. Beth sells stunning silver hammered jewelry and I have a feeling I'm going to end up with her Bucket and Pail necklace at some point in the near future.

Studio

I've been working like crazy getting ready for the Renegade fair. This shot was taken while I was working on a new addition to Up in the Air Somewhere. These are small paper bowls that are gold leafed on the inside. I'm loving how they just glow.

Driving Through

I just joined Zipcar and am really excited to have the option of easily renting a car when I need one. It ends up being slightly less expensive then using a car rental place and I like the idea of car sharing.

Thinking about how I'll use the Zipcar reminded me of how much I love riding in the car and looking out the window at the landscape going by. Everything becomes especially beautiful and magical as it floats past the window and disappears into the rear view mirror. Etsy seller CJ Shanks has a series of photographs called Driving Through that captures a little bit of that feeling.

Silos

I could stare at these shapes for hours. After Sarah posted this picture on her blog my brain really started to churn with new ideas. It's such a beautiful combination of line and volume. Sigh...

Multiples

I love this tile from the subway in San Francisco.

Renegade Craft Fair

I'm slowly getting ready for the Renegade Craft Fair. This year should be really fun, especially since I'll be right next to my good friends Sarah of Cursive Design and Danielle of Pearl & Marmalade.

I'm really excited about my booth design. I have a vision involving 500 sheets of recycled copy paper. I know the weather conditions may not be on my side, but I just have to see this idea through. Stop by and say hello September 13 + 14 from noon - 10pm on Division east of Damen.

Martha!

It was really exciting to discover that one of my Gold Point Vessels was used as a prop on page 94 of the September issue of Martha Stewart Living. It is so rare that I get to see my work outside of the studio, so it was really great to see how a prop stylist decided to use it in a room.
